New Delhi: As India gears up to celebrate 70 years of its Independence, this unfortunate episode where more than 34 innocent lives were lost due to the apathy and callous attitude of the government, will also be added as a shameful chapter. Is it because these innocent children don't fom a vote-back? Sixty-three children have lost their lives due to encephalitis and reported lack of oxygen supply at the BRD Medical college in five days, of whom many were infants, and 30 of the deaths were reported in the last 48 hours.

The medical college has been receiving massive funds from the state to tackle encephalitis, especially after Adityanath became the chief minister. Attendants and family members of the patients admitted, however, claim that despite the funds, there were neither doctors, nor proper treatment, adequate medicines or oxygen supply at the medical college.
