WILL YOU PAY RS 1.12 CRORE FOR A MOTORCYCLE, EVEN IF IT IS A LIMITED EDITION MOTOGP CLASS OFFERING?
A couple of days back, MV Agusta launched its limited edition F4 RC World Superbike Championship race replica with a price tag of Rs 50.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). Now if you think this is a very expensive motorcycle, then have a look at the price of the new Ducati 1299 Superleggera that has also been announced for India now. This new bike comes with a whopping price tag of Rs 1,12,20,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). Ok, let us count those zeros for you -- it is Rs 1.12 crore, and that is around double the price of some of the most expensive motorcycles in the country. So, the thing which doesn't need any explanation now is that the Ducati 1299 Superleggera now becomes the most expensive motorcycle on sale in India.
Unveiled at the 2016 EICMA show in Milan, Italy, the new Ducati Superleggera doesn't look much different from its Panigale siblings, including the Panigale S Anniversario edition that recently sold in the country for a cost of around Rs 60 lakh. So, what make the Superleggera so special to cost over a crore? Let's get inside to find the answer.
First of all, the new Ducati 1299 Superleggera is a limited edition motorcycle with the production restricted to just 500 units worldwide. It is almost an all-carbon fibre motorcycle except for the engine. Along with the carbon fibre wheels, it is the first production motorcycle to get a carbon fibre main frame and swingarm. Moreover, the engine and other metallic components on the bike also use exotic materials like titanium and billet aluminium, reaching the incredible dry weight of just 156kg.
The 1,285cc, Desmodromic L-twin in the Ducati 1299 Superleggera cuts down 2.1kg and gains 10PS, making it the most powerful twin-cylinder ever produced. Representing the best of Ducati technology, the Euro 4-compliant motor makes 215PS of power at 11,000rpm and delivers a peak torque of 146.5Nm at 9,000rpm. Coming to the other components, the bike features top-end fully-adjustable Öhlins suspension set-up, again with the internal parts made of lightweight materials. Brakes are also top-spec with the four-piston Brembo M50 Monobloc radial callipers grabbing the 330mm dual front discs and a two-piston Brembo calliper on the 245mm rear disc. The system further comes aided with cornering ABS for safe high-speed braking even in the corners.
The advanced electronic package that comes standard with the Superleggera includes multiple riding modes, power modes, DTC (Ducati Traction Control), DWC (Ducati Wheelie Control), DSC (Ducati Stability Control), DPL (Ducati Power Launch), DQS (Ducati Quick Shift) for both up and down, EBC (Engine Braking Control), DDA+ (Ducati Data Analyzer) with GPS module and full ride-by-wire. Moreover, the company offers an addition track kit for the bike offering titanium racing exhaust, racing windshield, machined mirror block-off plates, license plate mount removal plug, side-stand removal kit, front and rear paddock stands and paddock bike cover for a proper race bike experience.
