Dhanteras Gift: Now Madhya Pradesh cuts VAT on fuel

New Delhi, Oct 13: There is a good news now for the people of Madhya Pradesh. "Have reduced 5% VAT on diesel and 3% on petrol, new prices will come into effect from midnight," announced the Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Ahead of the Assembly elections, Gujarat had announced VAT eduction on petrol and diesel. Following the suit, Maharashtra was in tow and it was expected that BJP-ruled states will follow the same line. After the Centre taking a hit of Rs 26,000 crore by cutting excise duty on oil, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had nudged states to cut sales tax or VAT on petrol and diesel to provide further relief to consumers from high fuel prices
Making the announcement about VAT reduction on petrol and diesel on Tuesday, Maharashtra government termed it as a "Diwali gift" to people of the state.
