Celebrity Homes Feature: Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna

Celebrity Home of Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna: The entire house, done by Khanna right from drafting to plans to picking the Paola Navone ceramic stools, boasting family photographs, momentos collected on trips (such as a Mother Mary and Baby Jesus sculpture that Kumar spotted at a store window while holidaying in Spain) or gifts given to each other (Khanna gifted Kumar a painting titled Indian James Bond for his 40th birthday). Her mother's and son, Aarav's, paintings give her home a very personal touch! The couple is big on family and spending time with family!

Their home is a two-tier space. Until recently, the family lived only on the ground floor. With the birth of their second child, daughter Nitara, the couple realised they needed more space and the second floor was acquired. Thus, the first floor houses a living and dining space, the kitchen, a home theatre as well as Kumar's walk-in closet. It also has this amazing 13-part pendant light installation by Klove Studio, an indoor pond, antique silver candelabras and a brass-and-glass Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla centre table, the first floor is considerably muted—with subtle colours of greys, off-whites and creams. It isnt harsh on the eye. Elongated, wide, Italian sofas adorn the living spaces.

The second floor has the bedrooms, a small pantry, Twinkle's home office (where she churns out those witty columns!), also a huge balcony with a daybed where the family plays Ludo, Cards and Backgammon. All in all, Khanna describes her home as “a modern, clean-cut space with eclectic cultural references." From influences of European Churches to scuptures from Indian Mythology, this couple's fancy for art perfectly reflects in their home. Each space is utilised - the innovation she’s most proud of is a bookshelf under the staircase. “It’s a tricky space for everyone, usually wasted or reserved for shoes… but I needed a space for my crates of books,” she says.
