Good for us, Lalit Modi one fine day decided to tweet about the Kochi team. Even a free for all round in the World Boxing Championships cannot beat this one. Hey! but in the Boxing Championships you cannot hit below the belt but in this one, the rule is to hit below the belt. A potent mixture for any news channel, the tale has it all. Cricket, a minister, his supposed 'external affair', the dirty game of money. A lethal mixture indeed because it is a war fuelled by the power and money game .
The country watches helplessly as it is openly argued whether two supposedly important individuals of our country openly used their influence or buying power to further their personal and business interest making the highly lucrative IPL a tool for minting money.
Whether Sunanda was actually used as a proxy by Minister of State for External Affairs Minister Shashi Tharoor wrt the Kochi team or Modi took care of the interests of his brother in law in the Rajasthan Royals, the game of Cricket is the loser.
The country has just begun to get the stench of the filth that lies beneath very neatly covered by the glamour of Bollywood. The cheezy smiles of Shilpa Shetty, the jaadu ki jhappi that Preity Zinta is very liberal with or the everengross-ing Shahrukh-Dada saga .
But what exactly was Modi doing when he revealed Sunandas name in the tweet. There are theories that he did not want the Visa renewal of a South African model, but MEA did not pay heed so he decided to hit Tharoor below the belt.
Mr Tharoor took out his sword. Isn't he only too well aware that his comments on Nehru and then his infamous tweet on Cattle Class has done enough damage to an image conscious Manmohan Singh. He left nothing unturned to prove how deep in thick mud was Lalit Modi. The mudslinging continues. The country was introduced to a minute by minute unfolding of how the greatest passion of Indians, Cricket had been sabotaged by a select few.
What followed was nothing less than shocking. The rendezvous officials accused Lalit modi of offering them a bribe of 225 crores to let off their hold on the Kochi Team and that too in the presence of two cabinet Ministers and his daughter.
The country watched in dismay as it became clearer that Cricket was less of sports and more of Power Politics. As the name of Sharad Pawar came in, it slowly appeared like it was a game to clip the wings of Sharad Pawar. The next Breaking News that crept in was of an Income Tax raid on the Mumbai IPL Headquarters .
Even as I write, I am sure the news will have developed further with more happenings but now is the time to say we have had enough as a country.
Mr Lalit Modi and the whole gang of Politicians who say that they are in Cricket because it is their 'passion' come clear. The country needs some answers and they want it now.
