Caste ridden Bihar cast vote for hope

The stunning Bihar assembly election results have conclusively proved that the highly politicized state has voted for hope and development. The people of the state are often dubbed as very caste conscious and favour candidates of their castes. It is a remarkable paradigm shift for a state where the society is caste-ridden to the hilt.

While Nitish Kumar lead government has not done anything really significant during his first essay in the government, but it gave a sense of security to people of the state. The fear of being kidnapped is no more there. Those who run exhortation rackets are cooling their heels in the high walls of jails.

Nitish Kumar left no stone unturned in order to provide clean and efficient government. This is not a small thing given the fact that the state had witnessed total anarchy during Lalu-Rabri Raj. It was a jungle-raj during those dark days. Bihar touched the new low in the regime headed by and for backward classes.

It is equally important to discuss the role of women power in anointing Nitish Kumar at the helm of affairs. Without discussing as to how many women cast their votes in the six phase long polling for the Bihar assembly, one must not ignore the fact that women came all out to vote. They have voted more than the previous times. And, as we all know that the Nitish Kumar government had distributed large number of bi-cycles to school going girls of the state, it proved final nail in the coffins of champions of social justice.

Without taking away any credit from Nitish Kumar and his policies, one cannot deny that the ruling alliance got huge mandate of people as they had no alternative other than them. Given the extremely bad 15 years rule (read misrule) of Lalu-Rabri and that the Congress was also not in the race notwithstanding the fact that both Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had campaigned hard there, it was an easy going for Nitish Kumar led alliance.
